A 4-panel Showa Period Japanese screen from about 1970s. Hand painted on silk, with beautiful Hanaguruma flower cart full of a wide range of flowers including peonies, chrysanthemum, etc. In Japanese culture, the peony stands for good fortune, beauty and courage; the chrysanthemum represents longevity, rejuvenation and nobility; and the hydrangea symbolized heartfelt emotions and gratitude. Made in the Nihonga school style and signed with a seal on the bottom right side. Ink and color pigments over a raw silk background. Set in an ebonized frame with a silk brocade border.
